You Can’t Reach Everyone — And You Shouldn’t Try To

When you begin your coaching and mentoring journey, it often comes from a place of deep purpose. You’ve experienced transformation, discovered valuable insights, and now you feel called to share that with others.

Naturally, you want to reach as many people as possible. So you begin marketing, advertising, inviting people to Facebook groups, WhatsApp communities, and events. And people do respond. They join for all kinds of reasons — some out of curiosity, some because they’re genuinely seeking change, and others because something you said resonated with them in that moment.

But here’s the truth: not everyone will engage.

And that’s okay.

You’ll notice a familiar pattern in almost every community you build. There will be a few who are active — they comment, they share, they show up. There will be others who are interested but hesitant, needing encouragement or time to find their voice. And then there are those who simply stay silent — watching, listening, or maybe even forgetting why they joined in the first place.

This isn’t a reflection of your value as a coach or the strength of your message. It’s simply human nature. Some people are ready, some are unsure, and some are still finding the courage to take the next step. It’s not a failure — it’s part of the process.

As a coach or mentor, you have to remember why you started.

There’s a powerful story that captures this perfectly:

Two men are walking along a beach where thousands of starfish have washed up on the shore. One of the men starts picking up starfish and gently throwing them back into the ocean. The other man watches him and says,
“Why are you doing that? You’ll never make a difference — there are too many.”
The first man smiles, picks up another starfish, and replies,
“It makes a difference to this one.”

That’s what coaching is about: reaching one, helping one. Because you never know what ripple effect that one life might have. One transformation can impact families, communities, even generations.

So if you’re finding your group members aren’t engaging, don’t be discouraged. Don’t let silence convince you to retreat. Instead, stay consistent with your message. Keep showing up. Keep sharing your truth. Keep offering value — not because the whole group is responding, but because someone will.

Often, people don’t respond when you want them to. But then, weeks or even months later, someone messages you and says, “What you shared really stuck with me.” That’s the quiet impact of your presence, your voice, your consistency.

So no, you can’t reach everyone.
And no, you shouldn’t try to.
But if you reach someone — truly reach them — you’ve done something powerful.

Keep going. Someone is waiting for the light you carry.
