Break Free from Procastination

BREAK FREE FROM PROCRASTINATION
Why We Delay What Matters Most—And How to Finally Move Forward

“Action is the antidote to despair.” —Joan Baez

How often do you find yourself saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow”?

Whether it’s launching that idea, making that call, applying for the course, or having that difficult conversation—you keep pushing it back. Days turn into weeks, and weeks into months.

This article is a personal reflection, but it’s also a universal truth:
We all carry tasks and dreams in our minds that we’ve delayed for far too long.

The Heavy Cost of Delay

Recently, I finally did something I had been avoiding for months—writing and sending a simple email. And the moment I pressed “send,” I felt a powerful release, as if I had dropped a stone I’d been carrying in my pocket without realising it.

It made me wonder: how many of us are walking around with the quiet weight of unfinished dreams?

“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.” —William James

We think we’re just “waiting for the right time” or “getting things in order,” but often, what we’re really doing is soothing our discomfort. We clean the house, scroll endlessly, check emails, organise files—all the small tasks that feel productive but ultimately help us avoid what truly matters.

Procrastination Is Not Laziness—It’s Fear in Disguise

We delay the big things not because we’re lazy, but because they matter to us.
They come with risk—of failure, of rejection, of vulnerability. So instead, we get busy with everything but the thing.

Relationships. Business ideas. Creative projects. Healing.
All of them require us to show up, to be honest, and to risk something real.

But we can’t grow while avoiding discomfort. And we certainly can’t move forward while carrying things that are meant to be done, not just thought about.

Breaking Free: Take the First Step

This is why I’m running a new programme called “How to Break Free”, starting Saturday 5th July.
It’s designed for people who are ready to:

  • Stop procrastinating
  • Prioritise what truly matters
  • Build momentum with small but powerful actions
  • Work on personal or professional goals in a supportive space

We’ll focus on letting go of what drains you and leaning into the tasks that move you forward.
And perhaps most importantly, you’ll be part of a WhatsApp group with others who are on the same journey—sharing updates, celebrating wins, and reminding each other to keep going.

How to Start Right Now

Here are 5 things you can do today to start shifting from stuck to moving:

Identify one thing you’ve been avoiding and take a micro-action towards it—send the message, make the call, write the paragraph.
Write down what distractions you usually turn to instead (cleaning, scrolling, busywork).
Ask yourself what fear might be behind the delay.
Declutter one area of your life that’s stealing your energy.
Join a community where others are taking action, not just talking about it.
